on a scale of easy peasy to pulling your hair out…where are you on getting a good family photo? i have to say one of my favorite parts of the holiday card season is seeing every one’s family photos. whether beautifully taken by a local photographer or by mom or dad who are trying with all their might to get EVERYONE to look at the camera and smile:) the above cuties are my sis (B) and her sweet SWEET fam, whom i heart with my whole heart. (can’t wait to spend thanksgiving with them!!!!). she sent me some pics for her christmas card and although very cute, not christmas card worthy. so what makes a photo christmas card worthy? 1. make sure you can see every one’s face (unlike the top left pic) 2. good lighting. dark photos do not print well even when doctored up in photoshop 3. they can be casual, taken in a backyard or sitting around the house after the turkey meal. sometimes the best time to snap a shot is when kids are relaxed and not forced to stand and say cheese. 4. you don’t all have to match, we can always make a photo black & white, its a magical way to make everything seem like it goes together:)  5. take pics that really portray your family! like the top two right pics, we can always do a collage of photos to display you and your little (or not so little) munchkins. and finally 6. look at my design selections and pick out a card for your family photo, then it will be christmas snail mail ready!
hope you all have a happy thanksgiving and enjoy lots of good food, great conversations, laughter, unnecessary eye rolls at your family and hearts full of gratitude. i know life is unbearable at times, stressful, and all you want to do is take a nap but we all have many things to be thankful for - let’s take some time to really count our blessings!

more handsome men’s stationery! do you have a crush yet?!

more handsome men’s stationery! do you have a crush yet?!

spring forward, fall back. i’m just going to say it - i would rather not fall back. i love the daytime and long days of sun and it’s not my fav when it’s five o’clock and the sun is setting. and you may be like me, when seven o’clock rolls around and you start thinking…is it time to wind down for bed? sad. so, fall is officially here and although days are shorter and night comes too soon, there are some wonderful things about the season. first, the leaves are gorg!!! not sure if they are usually this vibrant, but i am in love with the trees this year. take a walk outside and you can’t help but notice the colors! second, football games, hot cozy beverages, fluffy scars and comfy sweaters. i heart all. so even though it is sad that i switched out my summer tanks for jackets and sweaters today, i am going to appreciate this new season. and, as you all know, around EOH fall brings my busiest time of the year! christmas orders galore (of which, i am very thankful!). and this brings us to today’s post - holiday gifts!!!
this season, one of the coolest gifts EOH has to offer is our new men’s line, OLIVER for Emily O. Holmes. thanks to contributing designer, robert kown, we now have a sharp and handsome stationery line for any boy or man in your life! it’s the perfect gift for a high schooler, dad, hub, uncle, business partner, whoever…everyone has to write thank you notes whether they like to or not:) so, email or come by my next show to order the perfect male gift!
i also listed some of my other fav gifts for men 1. plaid flannel shirt from j.crew 2. perfect winter boots, we got a pair for wade last year from urban outfitters, but i found them again this year on the brands site 3. doc kit for all your holiday travels and 4. cool military bomber jacket, for those men (like wade) who even on the coldest days wear light jackets bc they sweat too much (tmi?)

have you ever had one of those encounters of ‘friends at first sight?’ i know they are few and far between, but the bday gal above, the cool and chic afton mooney, was one of those friends. our soon-to-be hubbys were working together and becoming fast friends, and afton came into town for our first meeting at boscos. we began the dinner with get to know you conversation, which quickly turned into stories and laughs and we ended up leaving arm-in-arm already planning when we would hang out again. she is a very special gal to me, we have walked through hard dating times, engagement, marriage, good and bad times with friends and so much more. sweet af, i am forever grateful for your friendship. a few years ago afton and will moved to STL, but we still see them fairly often. they were passing through nash, dropping of my printer (trusty epson that can only be maintenanced in st loui, grrr). so they came by the house expecting to drop off the printer and stay for a quick chat - when SURPRISE!!!! we had a handful of her girlfriends hiding behind counters, chairs and curtains:) she was SO shocked! so shocked that she didn’t get that it was for her bday. she was wondering why i had streamers hanging. it was such a fun surprise and will did an excellent job of getting her out of town and to our house without letting out the secret. SO FUN! i highly recommend intimate surprise parties. so happy early bday afton! love from nash.
a few ways you can make your parties extra special….
1. streamers - they may remind you of 80’s prom, but they are so festive! we got teal and yellow, two of affys favorite colors and strung them over the living room. super cute and easy to hang and clean up.
2. glittered letters - friend beth, who helped me put this whole thing together, glittered an ‘A’ and ‘W’ in gold and we had it as a centerpiece for the room. she got the letters from jo-ann’s and glittered away!
3. stripped straws - they are everywhere, as they should be! we used them in all our beverages and had a little tag on them with ‘surprise’ and a heart.
4. happy birthday bunting - i know everyone doesn’t have as much scrap paper lying around as me, but go to walgreens or michaels and get yourself some construction/scrapbook paper and get to cutting and string with yarn or ribbon!
5. invite your friends + get chuey’s take-out + make delicious happy milkshakes = the perfect surprise party!
It only takes a little extra planning plus some great friends to show others how much you love them! Try it for your next dinner party, friend hang out or holiday!

it’s november 1st all!!! i can’t believe october has flown right by us. i think that wade and i saw a christmas commercial late last night…they break out everything christmas right after the pumpkins come down! no time to waste:) and that is actually true here at EOH! time to email me and put in your orders for your holiday photo cards BY END OF DAY TODAY if you want to receive 24 free holiday stickers. email me and we will get the process started, even if you don’t have your family photo yet!
AND order your luxurious letterpress stationery by today to receive our special deals!
side note - i have a confession…. since i’ve been designing and looking at holiday cards for over 2 months now, i’m kinda ready for some christmas music (is that dorky?). i kinda hate to admit that bc i am an avid believer that you do not turn on the bing, dean, wynona or amy’s holiday tunes until driving home from the thanksgiving meal. it may sound silly, but its a tradit here at the holmes’ house. i’ll be posting some of my favorite warm cozy christmas tunes for you all to enjoy soon!

that’s what friends are for…

we have another summer bride post! hopefully you all like the break from holiday world:)

everything has gotten better as far as weddings, everything. how did you ask your bridesmaids to stand beside you on your sweet day? to walk with you through the good and bad times of marriage? to speak truth, words of comfort or contradiction in your life and marriage?  me….a phone call or a face to face ask…but nothing as cute and long lasting as these precious vintage hankies and tags. i would do many things different in the planning/decoration of my wedding, and this is definitely one of them! EOH is offering vintage hankies to either wrap a sweet note to your bff or print on the actually hanky (last photo in the corner). it would be a treasure that would last forever! to all those brides-to-be, i encourage you to give something that will last to those friends who you couldn’t live without!
